Summer Utility Savings

usage monitor in his home that allows him to track how much electricity every appliance, light bulb, computer, television, etc. uses.

After watching this for a year, he has concluded that one of the
least expensive things one can do for immediate utility savings is to
change out the return air filters every month.

This enables more efficient air flow and reduces the time the air
conditioning unit is running.  Additionally it minimizes wear and
tear on the A/C unit.

I recommend purchasing enough return air filters to last at least 3
months so you do not have to run to the store every month.  You
might even want to purchase enough to last a year.  Additionally, find an activity that you already do once a month and “attach” this activity to it so you do not forget.

For example, I give my dog heart worm medication every month on the 15th.  I have an alarm set up in my calendar as a reminder. I just added “change air filters” to the message so on every month on the 15th, my calendar sends a text message to my phone saying: “heart worm meds & change air filters”.

This simpifies life and saves money!

Good idea!! I’ve also set my thermostat on 72 so the A/C will cycle on and off and not run continuously. I remember reading that somewhere — I think that’s the proper temp?
