My Pastor, Mike McGown Preached A Great Sermon Yesterday!

by Bruce on December 21, 2009

On most Sunday’s, I am traveling and preaching somewhere in the world. Yesterday, it was great to worship with my family at our home church in Katy, Texas.

Pastor Mike preached a great Christmas message using Scrooge from “A Christmas Carol” as an illustration.

He encouraged us to ask ourselves the following questions to discover our priorities.

  1. Which of the following statements bring the most stress?
  • There is no God.
  • There is no money in the bank.

2. When you have an opportunity to give, do you:

  • Try to figure out a way to give?
  • Try to figure a way not to give?

Wow…this is a quick way to get to the bottom line.

Christmas time is always a good time to re-evaluate our giving patterns and motives in light of what God has given us…eternal life through the babe of Bethlehem.

“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” Matthew 6:24 (NIV)

Let’s be generous givers…not just during the Christmas season, but all life long!
